THE FAN CLUB

The Fan club is a group of friends that live in the Southern California area known as the Inland Empire. We all have similar interests, mostly comic books, science fiction movies or other "nerdy" endeavors.

The name "The Fan Club" was chosen after none of the members could think of anything better. The "Fan" stands for "Fanboy" .

Wikipedia describes a Fanboy as:

"A term used to describe someone who is utterly devoted to a single subject or hobby, often to the point where it is considered an obsession. The term originated in comic book circles, to describe someone who was socially insecure and used comics as a shield from interaction, hence the disparaging connotations. Fanboys are often experts on minor details regarding their hobbies, and they take these details extremely seriously. The term itself is often used in a derogatory manner by less serious fans of the same material."

The origin of the Fan Club can be debated depending on who you speak to. Some members feel that the first "official" meeting of the Fan Club was during the midnight sales of Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace toys on May 3, 1999 outside of Toys R Us. Others feel that it was the Barbeque thrown by El Presidente on May 8, 1999 in honor of the release of episode one, which the entire Fan Club was actually assembled.

Every year the Fan Club makes it's yearly trek to the San Diego Comic Con, where we can binge on our nerdy pastimes.
